Would You Like to Help Index the 1940 Census?

The 1940 US Federal Census indexing project ( ) is the largest, most comprehensive and most recent record set documenting the 132 million people living in the United States in 1940. FamilySearch, Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS), and other community partners are organizing an effort to index and publish these records online for free.

FamilySearch will provide information and tools for the indexing project. FamilySearch will also offer online webinars and help resources if you have any questions or need additional information.

For more information about the project or how to get involved, send an email to Merlin Jay Price at
