List of Public Libraries

Here is a handy list, by state, of public libraries. Click on the state of interest, and then that state's cities are listed in alphabetical order with their library. The name of the library is given along with its address and phone number.

Even in this day when nearly all libraries have their own website you can search, a simple list may be helpful.

Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Grave Registration Database

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Database is a volunteer supported project that was established in 1996. The database itself was not available to the public until 2005.

As a member of the public, you can search the database, and if you have an approved account, you can enter data.

You can search the database by name, unit, state, branch, and cemetery information. Your resulting hit list will give birth and death information as well as unit and rank and discharge.

This is a work in progress, so your ancestor may not be represented, but it will not hurt to explore it a bit to show support for the project.

The program will be held at the Largo Public Library at 11 AM on Saturday, 20 Aug 2016. AT 10 AM the program will be preceded by a "computers in genealogy" Q&A session.
