Website Focuses on Attempts to Unite Families After Slavery

This site is a project of the Graduate Program of the Department of History at Villanova University in collaboration with Mother Bethel AME Church. A group of graduate students search microfilmed post Civil War newspapers for instances of people who were separated from their families reaching out through newspaper ads to make contact.

You can browse the more than 1200 items (ads) or browse the 70 collections (newspapers). At the bottom of the left panel of the landing page is a search bar where you can search by name in those articles that have been indexed.
